Mark, I agree that many don't appreciate the significance of today's news. As I understand it, not only does the 60% improvement in cathode performance put Valence far ahead of the competition's more expensive cobalt oxide, but introduces a means for greatly improving the performance of cobalt and other oxides used for battery cathodes as well.

Valence competitors who already have huge investments in Lithium-ion canister technology could use this to improve their battery performance. In order to do so legally, they would need permission from Valence, which will most likely be available if they pay royalties! While they are at it, they may find it economical to switch from Cobalt oxide to Manganese oxide for safety and cost reasons. Again, it should result in substantial royalty income for Valence. I seem to remember a statement by Lev last year that royalty income could well exceed revenue from Valence's own production!
