Someone is bearish,

KAPLAN'S CORNER: Question: What do you think of the near-term future for silver? Answer: The only resolution is a collapse to major support near 4.80. Regardless of what other commodities or precious metals do over the next few weeks, there will be at least a few days when thousands of speculator sell stops for silver are triggered. Since the net short commercial position in silver is around 70,000 contracts, being short silver is the closest thing to a guaranteed short-term winner that you are likely to see for the rest of 1999.

From gold mining outlook Jon Kaplan.
