I think you have discussed speed and scalability before, but the following statement from ATHMs 10Q is interesting in its choice of words, "unproven," "unknown," and blaming "subscriber abuse" for their recent performance problems. Sounds like the cable mentality is alive and well at home:

THE SCALABILITY, SPEED AND SECURITY OF OUR NETWORK IS UNPROVEN

Due to the limited deployment of our services, the ability of our network to connect and manage a substantial number of online subscribers at high transmission speeds is as yet unknown, and we face risks related to our network's ability to be scaled up to its expected subscriber levels while maintaining superior performance. The network may be unable to achieve or maintain a high speed of data transmission, especially as our subscribers increase. In recent periods, the performance of the network has experienced some deterioration in certain markets as a result of subscriber abuse of the @Home service. While we seek to eliminate such abuse by limiting users' upstream bandwidth, our failure to achieve or maintain high-speed data transmission would significantly reduce consumer demand for our services.

I read recently that TCI cable is the most out of date plant there is among the major cable companies. Is the above true?
