OT - Thanks Kent for the excellent article! I usually catch these kind of articles on CBS but this one got away. These companies are right up my alley, the kind I really like to watch (etec, sdli, unph). Will be VERY interesting. Any possibilities of one of these babies LU cant live without? Sure makes LU sure to blow away CSCO with ASND!!! GO ASND/LU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uniphase Expands Its CATV Product Offering With New High-Power EDFAs and 1550-nm Transmitters The New +11 dBm Transmitter Offers the Highest Power In Its Class SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1999-- Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: UNPH - news) today announced that it has expanded its industry-leading product line for 1550-nm CATV transmission with the addition of the new +11dBm 1550-nm transmitter and new +22 dBm and +24 dBm EDFAs. These products are designed for use by cable TV equipment manufacturers for supertrunking and distribution applications. The new 1550-nm transmitter provides two useable ports with +11 dBm output per port and SBS suppression of over +16 dBm. This represents the industry's highest output power from a 1550-nm transmitter, allowing more cost-effective deployment of this technology. This transmitter is capable of transmission over a distance of 50 km without the use of an EDFA. The Uniphase line of CATV EDFAs has been expanded, with products for +22 dBm and +24 dBm. These higher power EDFAs reduce the cost of deploying 1550-nm transmission and allow for architectures using larger numbers of splits and deeper penetration of fiber.
