Well today I think I learned why you guy have both NT and 95/98 would the biggest advantage to installing 95 on my machine simply be access to DOS ?

You do need DOS capability. Win95 is one way to get it. You can also develop a DOS boot floppy if you do not want it on the harddrive.

We ......should say my buddy was going nuts today because he could not get in to DOS tried to hook up a portable Zip drive to my NT machine to transfer some files no luck tried a portable hardrive / no luck My version of LapLink would not load on NT tried FX / no luck He was not to happy today and do not think he will be switching to NT anytime soon.

NT has a lot more roadblocks than Win95. I have tried the move to NT on several occasions and had to backtrack as key programs would not run.

I have NT up and running now but it will not be my only OS. My intent is to boot and use NT as my primary OS. Win95 will remain on my computer. I am using two harddrives but it can be done with one.

Could I put both NT and 95 on a 2 gig partition and then always just run NT as my main OS ?

Yes. The partition has to be FAT16 and it cannot exceed 2 gig and change.

Would there be any conflicts ?

Not to my knowledge. Be sure you install NT and Win95 in separate directories.

That is starting to sink in as a good idea I think

Standard procedure is to install Win95 first. Then when NT is installed it detects Win95 and sets up a dual boot for you. NT is the default boot..there is a pause in the boot sequence and you can opt for Win95.

I do not know how to install the two OSes in reverse order...it can probably be done.

Do you have the NT install disk? NT is now in an NTFS partition?? I do not think you can convert NTFS to FAT16 without a reformat.

Short of a second harddrive I do not think you can set up a dual boot without a reformat. You could use the boot manager that comes with Partition Magic. I am not a fan of Boot Managers...mostly because they require setting up another partition..they are however viable alternatives for dual boot systems.
