A comment on RDRAM that I believe is being underestimated by many (not necessarily on this board)

To succeed with higher clock speed CPUs, Intel (and AMD and NSM et al) MUST have RDRAM.

While they can introduce these faster processors with interim SDRAM solutions, the performance enhancement will be so mediocre that sales of the faster CPUs will also be mediocre.

ONLY when Rambus technology is added to these CPUs will people beg to buy the faster CPUs.

And THAT'S why Intel will spend as much as it has to in order to ensure the success of Rambus. It simply cannot wait for the pie-in-the-sky alternatives to appear.

If Camino is delayed significantly, not only will it hurt Rambus, it will KILL Intel.

IMHO, Intel's survival (stock price), at least for the near term, is intricately tied to Rambus'.

My 2 cents.

Alan, regarding the etymology of the potato, I stand corrected. <ggg>

You wouldn't be related to Dan Quayle, would you <GG>? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Alan,

Re. the potatoe,

Dan Quayle has already patented this word. You need to pay license fees to tap on his creativity. <g>

Cheers,
