Gwynne Dyer ( the world renowned regular contributor to the much quoted Focus ) is absolutely correct.

The chairmen of Monsanto, Novartis and Zeneca must be siezed and thrown into tubs of water. If they sink (or is it float?) they must be hung, then cut down alive, drawn, quartered and of course burned. And let's not forget the Prince of Wales either. He has big ears, had Lady Di murdered and is soft on GM foods through ignorance ( the product that he is of GM breeding and we all know that the only right way to choose our mates is the grab bag method).

Sheez, she makes some of our journalists look evenhanded and believable!(BTW she didn't really accuse Charles of doing in Di. How could he have when everyone knows Shapiro did?)

Wow, major misrepresentatons in the Globe story; don't be surprised, the foreign press is often really poor with regard to accuracy. I guess gossip sells better than fact.

He said:
"Whatever the real problems with GM foods, the strategy for their gradual research and introduction? Is ten or twenty years of development "high-speed"?

My comment:
Which problems?...by the way, that don't exist after MANY years of research and gradual introduction.

He said:
In the words of Malcolm Walker, chairman of the British food-store chain Iceland Foods (which now has banned all GM foods from its shelves), the U.S. food giants' tactic of mixing GM and ordinary soya to make sure it was all contaminated was "secretive, devious, and a terrible thing to do. People want food they can trust."

My response:
Grains have always been mixed together as part of the normal supply chain. How is what always happened a "tactic"?

He said:
When Mr. Shapiro took over as CEO four years ago, Monsanto was a middling-to-large agrochemical combine with a huge problem: The patent for the highly successful weed killer (Round-up) that provided the bulk of its income was due to expire soon. He came up with a brilliant solution.

My comment:
Now, this is an interesting twist of reality! Mr. Shapiro came up with the RR gene technology in FOUR YEARS?!? That's quite an accomplishment! He deserves the Nobel prize. Did he work overtime in the labs to do this, by himself? Or was he also assisted by his half-potato clone?
