Trouble is, most Americans appreciate that he is guilty of real crimes. American views of his consensual activities with a young girl cross political lines and vary- but it's not good overall by any means. Tiny morality ratings coupled with voters who believe he committed crimes. You can be sure Democrats are not happy having picked this guy. Average Americans know full well what Democrats would have done with this same evidence and defense for a George Bush...and so the tactic of blaming Republicans for Clinton's "catch-22" is unwise and hypocritical. What backlash? Why a backlash? Politicians slip, and the other side makes them pay if they can...this is what politicians do. "everybody knows" hehehe.

Have you noticed that polling puts My Bush junior ahead of Gore for President in 2000? Hmmm...how can that be? And right in the middle of this time when Americans are supposedly so down on Republicans? Don't look for any backlash in 2000...save against Democrats if they continue trying to blame Republicans for being "sex police." This is getting far older than you know. Clinton is saved! Rejoice! Best to take it and run. The majority knows he is guilty of crimes revolving around sex and slander. The prosecutor therefore, is largely vindicated, whether you see it or not. The public is a surprising bunch.
