The following cmoes from NetworkWorld magazine dated Feb.22. I just pulled the issue out of my mailbox 5 minutes ago. It states-

"The word on Wall Street last week had switch maker Xylan being bought by Alcatel. The rumor of this purchase has been around before, but some sources were certain the buy could happen by mid-March."

It seems unusual that an industry trade magazine would discuss a rumor like this. Their concern isn't about Wall St. but rather on the technology. This leads me to believe that there must be some credibility to this story.
