Mohan, it isn't a matter of credibility. I hope that nobody thinks that I am being critical of Dell's methodology when I publish my numbers. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The thread should also be aware of the fact that never before have I seen ROICs like Dell's -- regardless of the method of calculation. Generally, an ROIC of 30% is an outstanding achievement.

Mohan, ROIC numbers revisited:

Here are some ROIC numbers from three box makers. I didn't include IBM or HWP because they are impossible to even approach because of the variety of their "non-box" offerings.

AAPL .. 4.6%
GTW ... 43.5%
CPQ ... 9.1%

Dell .. 156%

As far as I'm concerned this is the best possible view of management effectiveness. How anybody could dislike Dell's management when they post numbers like these is inconceivable to my little cat brain.

Is there any question about which company is the class of the group?
