Yes, there was a movie called that.

But I'm tempted to think the phrase comes originally from Kipling.

Discounting a version of The Apostle's Creed where the phrase is something like "..Jesus shall come to judge the quick and the dead..."

Anyway, first I ever heard of it was when Senior Management was driving us nuts in my old incarnation as an Engineer and one of the Directors told me "The Elephants are dancing again."

I think of that every time the market starts to oscillate like a tuning fork, speaking of forks.
