No, I think I am using this in standard context--an INNOCENT man protecting himself from an outside force meaning to do him harm.

Clinton's innocence before the court was proven two ways--by the judge's final immaterial ruling, and by the Starr investigation. Being innocent, BC can call upon the self-defense defense.
I think I've intimated across several posts, if not to you, that I think this is a hell of a way to run a court system. Clinton should not bear the cost of pointing out a faulty place in the system. Punishing him won't fix it.
