COMS adds to its 'edge' product line...

3Com to Buy NBX

3Com Corp. said it would acquire NBX Corp., a closely held maker of telephone- and computer-switching equipment, for $90 million in cash and stock. NBX, of Andover, Mass., makes equipment that allows small businesses to merge their telephone and computer networks. The 2 1/2-year-old company has 90 employees. 3Com, of Santa Clara, Calif., said the acquisition would help it offer equipment that handles telephone calls, video and computer data simultaneously. 3Com is the second-largest maker of computer-networking equipment.
