Once you go through ATHM's pipes the opening page will be ATHMs - that is my understanding, from there you can go where you want just like AOL. Those AOL subscribers who want to continue starting their net experience though AOL's internal servers (which is the majority, since new net users find AOL easier than just entering the open net) would be able to if there is a deal between ATHM and AOL --- that deal i would speculate would require revenue sharing in exchange for ATHM giving up it's opening page to AOL. Just a thought.

"After hooking up ATHM, what's to prevent me from using the "cheaper" rates for
bring-your-own access AOL ($9.95/mo) and piggyback on top of the ATHM
broadband? Once I have the big pipe to my house, AOL software can just "run"
through that pipe."

Blaze, absolutely nothing, because ATHM could care less what you do after you turn on your computer...but you are paying $49.95 per month to get AOL "broadband"...This is pissing off AOL, they want an equal shot at being the cable company's customer for the $40 fee.

Mike
Again, ATHM gets the revenue (well actually a portion, because the $40 is shared by the owner of the pipe <cable co> and athm <content>) even
though you don't use ATHMs content.
