Coby, very good point. So they balance out each other for the Fed. and it works like magic for CPI. But for average folks, there is a inflation because average folks do not trade commodities. Gas is the only thing I can think of which costs less.

That's exactly what I meant (interest rates and not taxes), thanks for the correction!

As for averages, isn't that how inflation is traditionally measured? There may be pockets of inflation in the economy, but that is hardly a macro level phenomenon.
