Solectron seems on pace to continue its rapid growth by adding capacity to its present facilities and now opening a new plant in Brazil:

Solectron Announces Opening of New Campus in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil
PR Newswire - March 12, 1999 08:15

Company Has Hired More Than 500 Associates in Less Than a Year and Plans
to Hire Another 500 Before the Year 2000

MILPITAS, Calif. and SAO JOSE DOS CAMPOS, Brazil, March 12 /PRNewswire/
-- Solectron Corporation (NYSE: SLR), a worldwide provider of customized
electronics manufacturing solutions to original equipment manufacturers
(OEMs), today announced the grand opening of the first phase of its
planned 327,000 square-foot (30,400 square meters) facility in Sao Jose
dos Campos, Brazil. As a result of customer demand for electronics
manufacturing services in Brazil, Solectron has more than doubled its
workforce in nine months, to 1,044 associates. The company expects to
hire another 500 associates by the Year 2000.

"Our OEM customers have embraced Brazil as one of the fastest growing
electronics markets in the world," said Walt Wilson, senior vice
president of supply-chain integration and information technology who
oversees Solectron's Latin American operations. "The business growth we
have seen so far is promising and the market is ripe with opportunity.
This expansion allows us to anticipate the growing needs of our
customers who are eager to build their business in this very strategic
region. By manufacturing in Brazil, OEMs are close to their South
American customers which enables them to get their products to market
faster."

"Sao Jose dos Campos has been very good to us," said Milton Moreira,
vice president and general manager of Solectron's facility in Brazil.
"We have hired the most dedicated and skilled workers in the industry,
with plans to hire more, and have seen many healthy changes. Since our
arrival, not only has our business grown tremendously, we've spurred
growth in our community. We are anxious to propel that growth for the
betterment of the local economy."

Solectron established a presence in Brazil in 1997 when it acquired the
printed circuit board assembly operations of Ericsson Telecomunicacoes
S.A. At the time, 370 associates worked in a 60,000 square-foot (5,576
square meter) facility that offered only printed circuit board assembly
services. After the Solectron acquisition, the facility was retooled and
now provides customers a full range of capabilities across the product
life cycle. The site recently added New Product Introduction management
services, full systems build capabilities and a depot repair center. In
April, Solectron announced plans to build a 327,000 square-foot (30,400
square meters) facility and hire more than 1,000 associates. The first
phase of development -- 230,000 square feet (21,382 square meters) -- is
now complete. Customer demand will dictate when construction on the
second phase begins.

Today, the Sao Jose dos Campos facility provides a full range of
manufacturing services including supply-base and logistics management,
printed circuit board assembly, flexible circuit assembly, systems
integration, build-to-order, configure-to-order, testing, software
duplication, custom packaging, logistics and distribution management,
and is the South American hub for support services. The new facility
will also adhere to Solectron's high quality standards, replicated
worldwide and modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality award
criteria. The site is ISO 9002 certified.
