I haven't read The Tunnel in the Sky in many years ... decades, but I can't say I remember thinking that the main character could have been Black. If that is the case, and I'll have to find another copy somewhere, I can see how it could have been controversial back then ... 'cause wasn't his "wife" White??

Besides being a SF character, do you read any SF??
