El -
what's your take on this story???
I have no idea what is going on here. Surely they must have thought through the
implications of having direct net sellers competing with their other distribution, it has been
the topic in the trade press for a year.

Maybe it's the medication (Consisting mostly of single malt at this point) but I have to say
that I am not overwhelmed with the senior management's moves over the last few weeks.
The AltaVista ballyhoo seemed like a joke with no punchline. Why take the time to hype
the announcement on the web page and then basically say nothing?

EP keeps talking about the web and e-commerce but there are no programs to back up that
talk. I am much more impressed with the positioning IBM is doing on e-commerce. If we
want to play in the league of IBM (and now Sun who is also doing a great PR job, backed
up with good execution), we will need to do more than talk.

These guys need to get serious about an integrated message and the will to back it up.
