Justa,

Re:I liked SFAM and IPEC. Best value in combined technology and company fundamentals that I could find with my limited manpower. There is room for both AMAT and SFAM as recent order trends have demonstrated.

I am not so sure I agree on this one with you Justa. I hold SFAM and am beginning to view it more in the SVGI category- had a great opportunity but lost ground to the giants. SFAM/IPEC have lost serious market share IMO. This evidence is difficult to find at the moment since AMAT does not break their orders down by category. But looking at the anecdotal evidence, their poor valuation may be justified. SFAM is currently at the top of my sell list, though I will refrain from pulling the trigger since I have such a small position and they may well prove me wrong.

Regards,

Brian

Hi Justa,

I would tend to agree with Mark's estimates but you know how these orders can be cancelled and pushed out - in a heartbeat. Final demand is really going to be an issue as we move through this year.

These equipment stocks were obviously due for a correction so today's selloff is not surprising. Word has it we may see quite a bit of DRAM hit the market in the next few weeks. Some are even speculating that 64 megabit contract prices could easily go under $9.

I guess TER has not fully developed Rambus test yet.

I think they are further along than the other players. From what my ATE expert tells me the system from Advantest has a "jitter" problem. Time will tell.

There is room for both AMAT and SFAM as recent order trends have demonstrated.

Yes, there is room for both but bringing it to the bottom line is going to take SFAM/IPEC some time. I sat next to Roger M. during lunch and they have a major task ahead of them. Cleaning IPEC up is not going to be easy. I have always been amazed by the way that company was run. They should have piles of cash right now but they squandered it by trying to run in five different directions at the same time. SFAM management will bring some discipline to the strategy - that's for sure. Also in the CMP world you should keep your eye on news from a little private company called Obsidian. Not much information out there but I understand they are developing a good product and manufacturers are interested.

Thanks for sharing your views with us stiffs.

Thank you. You guys do a lot of homework and it's fun to read - when I have the time! :-)

Have a nice evening.
