LOL, This is why I still use NN 3.0. Works fine & I don't have to tweak it.

mr.mark, have you given much thought to upgrading to win98? or install a new Hdd and do a clean install win98? The fellows over on Dream Machine, Build Your Own help me put together a new rig in last couple months. I installed win98 and for me I've never seen anything as easy to use. I think I got 2 BSD while getting all I/O cards installed, but none since.

Tonight I exchanged Mother Boards due to a bad printer port in last one. Fired it up it went thru all the I/O cards, installed drivers, ask if I wanted to set BIOS. I did. Set configurations as per old board, restarted, and it did it's thing and now i'm in business. Good printer port and all. Probably 1½ hrs.

I double click on Communicator on desktop, Modem makes connections, using saved password all automatically. No comparison with win95. Telling you what it does for me. Others may differ.

Recognized my 2nd monitor immediately.

Keep pushing, wish I could be of more help.

Regards, /jw

"i've also been getting some blue screens of death when using the mail messenger, and i'm seeing where i may need to upgrade to winsock2. but before that i have to install a dial-up networking upgrade."

happy to report that after installing both of these upgrades, no more bsd's!

i've been running netscape communicator 4.5 full-on since going with the winsock2 and msdun13 upgrades, and everything is copasetic. it's a kewl browser, and i am very happy that i went with it. i'm also glad that i did not let a few problems prevent me from sticking with what, in my opinion, is a superior product.

here are the links, fyi:

microsoft.com

microsoft.com

it's very important to read the release notes on these downloads, or any upgrades. by doing just that, i learned that i shouldn't install just the winsock2 upgrade, but that i should install the dun13 in front of it. and i learned that if/when i encountered version conflict notifications while installing the dun13, i should answer "yes" to saving the newer file. from my limited experience with these version conflicts, it isn't always correct to say "yes", and so it helps immensely to read over the release notes beforehand.

fwiw :)
