Charlie Rose spent half an hour with Michael Dell this evening. He does not sound like a man worried about declining ASP's or falling margins. Current market share is 9%....he's shooting for 24% in two years, maybe three he hedged. Current sales rate is $14,000,000 24/7 world-wide. He says at the moment there are 400,000 hookups to the internet, and grows that to 1,400,000 in 18 months. Sees no PC demise, as bandwidth increases, we'll all want faster PC's. Does not expect any single "appliance" will replace PCs....no combination device like Phone/TV/PC will emerge...though he expects that as bandwidth increases, more internet applications for these devices will develop separately. Sees his competitors as still wedded to their business models that involve sales partners, which will preserve the Dell price advantage, allowing share increases. Rose sure knows how to dig.
