I'm always happy to play the nay-sayer.

Obviously VNTV screwed up very badly last year - and they've been working hard to fix it. They acknowledged their mistakes - some of them, anyway - and are moving forward. THey've made a bunch of management changes, the sales force is stablizing - these are important things.

My point about this SEBL thing is that there was enormous hype about not much, and that I don't think they thought through the entire single user version piece.

dave: sure, let's do that beer bet. I"m assuming we're betting on the percentage gain of VNTV vs. SEBL between now and close of Dec. 31?

Now they will have to fight off ACT and SalesLogic as well as Baan, SAP, Oracle, VNTV, whatever. Just seems like a HUGE distraction. I also think it will distract their development effort - all of a sudden, you've got to build, maintain and support this PC product, and keep the code lines in sync. It really will slow down their overall development effort, as the high level product will have to work with the PC product. Lots of QA, engineering meetings, etc.

From informationweek.com:

Analysts are skeptical, however, of Siebel's ability to move
individual users into higher-end workgroups and enterprises.
"There's no pipeline," says Steve Bonadio, an analyst at the
Hurwitz Group. "There has to be a channel to move those
users upstream." He added that Siebel's services partners
are not used to dealing with such small deals, either.

Hey - it's OK with me - gives VNTV a little more breathing room.
