Ed,

I don't know where people are getting the idea that Dell sells a few PCs on small networks for Mom and Pop businesses. I read a recent post where their SAN application would target small networks with a few servers. I don't know the distribution of NT servers and Optiplex PCs - but my best guess is that there are much larger setups and the need to incorporate mainframe data.

Just as an example, at my workplace there are easily hundreds and maybe thousands of Optiplexes on our LAN and I don't know how many NTs. Dell's installed base and distribution network will give them considerable leverage in this area.

ED,

<<<Dell certainly defined their objectives quite well and they get to learn on the job on small networks.>>>

I believe this phase with Dell is for 'PRIVATE' loop only. Brocade had an edge over Ancor months ago. MKII and MKII (8-porter) should have both public and private loops support perfected now.

<<< Any updates on how you see the FC industry evolving.>>>

This is a loaded question. I have to run right now. Off the top of my head, I come up with some topics which I would like participations from all.

1. PC/NT

2. UNIX/midrange

3. Mainframe

4. Storage/server vendors, who's calling the shots and why.

5. Private/Public loops. What are the implications?

6. FC network management software. What roll do they play? MIBs......

7. What are enterprise IT managers thinking ?

8. Most importantly, what are Ancor's chances vs others? Where's the biggest bang for the buck?

I think it is enough for now. If we can collectively answer these questions, we will have a good understanding where Ancor will be.
