BUY LOW - SELL HIGH OSX vs S&P500osxstocks.com (Scroll down to 800 day chart) One might notice that while the OSX shows a classic bottom formation, the S&P500 is showing a classic Top. Climbing energy prices (as soon as they become more apparent) will bring the broader index down to around 975 while the OSX climbs to ??...As energy prices climb this year, fears of inflation will be exploited (even though Greenspan will keep it in check). The 5-year projected earnings growth (PEG) for the S&P500 is a mere 7.2% and the index is selling at more than 28 times 1999 earnings. Contrast this with the average PEG of 7 Oil Service issues (HAL,SLB,FGI,DO,GIFI,RIG and NE) which is 19.1% annual growth over 5-Years; but, is selling at an anemic multiple of 10.7 times this years earnings (which many analysts agree is the nadir of OSX earnings). The Oil Services multiple for the trailing twelve months (ttw) is in single digits with some as low as 4 or 5. The sector is a screaming BUY for value investors. When internet mania finally subsides, earnings will drive the market. Count on it..... While timing these events is questionable at best; fundamental value and real growth will ultimately prevail. I don't say this. History proves it. Good news for the sector will start coming out when the average small investor is cleaned out. Very few people wants a stock when its on the bargain counter. The average investor only buys a stock after it already going up and "showing strength". The history of "Market Psychology" has demonstrated this time and time again. Anyone who thinks these obvious distortions will not eventually come into equilibrium has blinders on. Again, look @ the 800 day OSX/S&P500 chart. osxstocks.com What does this tell you? How long or how much more will this divergence continue?? These are the real questions. Not whether or not the OSX will drop a couple of points nor if the S&P will add another fifty. Look at the BIG PICTURE!! If one truly believes in "BUY LOW" and "SELL HIGH", which of the two indexes warrant a BUY and which one warrants a SELL? It's your money and your decision. FOCUS on the FACTs and do not be swayed by the hype and spin of the media or these message boards. Do your homework and act accordingly. Fundamental value and perseverance will prevail. They always do. K
