I met P.J. at lunch during a conference. Although he is much more successful than I, he was self- conscious because I am "serious", so I began by complementing him on a piece he had written for "The American Spectator" on the Nicaraguan elections, just after Chamorro won. He loosened up, and although we never "got rowdy", he was very nice. I confess, his instinct to be wary turned out to be correct, though, since I did eventually chide him for picking on Bush too much.
