Bandwidth Wars: DSL Gets A Boost
InternetWeek - March 01, 1999, Issue: 754

Spotty geographic coverage, interoperability problems and a lack of
equally high uploading and downloading speeds has digital subscriber
line service stalled in low gear among big businesses.

For now, it's small, regional companies that are boosting DSL sales,
primarily because those businesses can't afford traditional T1 or even
fractional T1 connections, which range from $900 to almost $2,000 per
month. By comparison, DSL costs range from about $90 to about $200 per
month for the basic service, depending on the speed of the transmission
required.

For many small-to-medium-sized businesses, DSL service is the clear
choice given the options: much slower dial-up modems or ISDN-which
come with costly monthly usage fees that can reach into hundreds of
dollars per month.
