RE: The discussion was about funding... You made the broadbrush statement that conservatives are against public funding. I am saying that conservatives recognize the appropriate need for public funding, but insist upon realoversight. --- Better get a hold on your own constituency...I am not sure DMA would agree with you either. But you sound like a reasonable moderate. I certainly appreciate that for a change. Regardless, vouchers are a joke that only proves my point. How would vouchers help the poor? How would they help the poor (or even middle class) pay for a private school they can't afford even with vouchers? No one I know (in a pretty nice area, BTW) would send their kids to a private school with a voucher if they don't already, nor would any of my clients from even wealthier areas. It amounts to a rebate check for those already sending their kids to private schools. Forget the argument your so called liberals would give you about 'gutting' the private system. It would gut only parts of it in favor of others, but with the same result. If you are going to tax people only to give the money right back you them, but with the bureaucracy taking its cut, just make the whole system private. OOPS, that's what conservatives want, isn't it? Same place...if you can afford it...otherwise... Vouchers are an attempt to further destroy a public school system which conservatives don't want in the first place. Hell, Dick Armey practically admitted as much to me in person. B. >>> Using your example of poor communities and lack of quality >>>education, if those affected were given vouchers >>> to attend whichever school they chose, that problem would be eliminated
