There is a new write-up on switch fabric networking architecture on Ancor's website. The message I get is that cascading switches to create a FC fabric is a little bit cheaper but has many single point of failures. Multi-staging/meshing uses a little more ports( more expensive) provide much needed redundancy. I can tell you in median to large enterprise networking, single point of failure is not an option no matter how cheap it is. Redundancy is a requirement, not an option. This point alone will sway many potential customers to Ancor camp IMHO.

>>>Among other features, Sun will use the technology know as Fiberconnect
extensively in its next generation of machines. Fiberconnect allows computers to
send data over fiber optic cables at a rate of one gigabyte per second. These kinds of speeds will make Serengeti an ideal machine for data mining and data
warehousing applications.
