<Hey do you think anyone is going to buy an Intel PIII when they know it as the Big Brother chip?>

I'm kind of disappointed at this whole ID mess. It's hard to look at big, gigantic Intel as a victim, but that's exactly what they've become, a victim of anti-establishment FUD.

Remember the Pentium FDIV bug? It was bug which caused imprecise divisions maybe once or twice in someone's lifetime. Yet it made people think that Intel processors couldn't even do simple math. It turned Intel into the laughing stock of the semiconductor world, at least for a little while.

Now this Pentium III ID is a feature that is supposed to increase security over the Internet. It's no more a threat to privacy than a credit card or social security number. Yet the FUD is spreading so quickly that people now think buying a Pentium III is the same thing as selling your soul to Big Brother.

True, Intel PR may need to learn a few lessons from these two events. But it's pretty sad to see that rational thinking has been tossed out the window.
