Because of the Big Brother chip you now have an FTC investigation

It hasn't escaped anyone's attention as to the real purpose of the chip ID --- Microsoft was reported in the London Financial Times as stating their intention in the future to require online registration of all products or turn them off after 50 uses period.

The chip ID is going to be used to generate the equivalent of the product code currently on the box. Microsoft plans to gather up the product code on the box and the computer id and generate another code which it will download to you to enable your software to work beyond the 50 uses. That is the whole point of the chip id. Your software will be locked in to one computer.

So Intel once again sacrifices its own interests and image to protect its Wintel partner's interests.

Moreover it has outraged consumers and brought itself squarely into the governments sights again.
