El: Agreed. Before I worried that at $47 it was fully valued and all the analysts were on board and there was not much scope for upgrading. At $35, and with the recent downgrades and ratcheting down of earnings, there is now a strong case that it is undervalued and scope for a slew of upgrades. The analysts will have no shame when they upgrade in a few weeks. They will simply say that the March sales, or the tax credits, or the higher end product margins, or something has saved the day.

On the business about CPQ never having fallen $6 in one day - not to be repetitive (I have already told the story to Lynn and Aitch) my memory is that it fell from $50/51 to $41 in one day - I think it was 1st quarter 3 years ago, maybe four (time goes so quickly) followed by another $3 fall the next day. Within about 6 weeks it was back to $47 then it moved to $57 where it stalled before moving up very strongly to splits. My memory being what it was perhaps there was a day or two between my selling at $51 and it starting the one day descent to $41 - so maybe on the actual day of the fall it may have fallen from about $49. I have a clear memory of the Schwab broker commenting that I had "turned an elephant" when I sold at $51 .

Compaq needs to be upgraded to a strong buy at $35! Look for a Zachs of 1.1 on Monday. What will bother me the most about slipping to this price is if Compaq does not defend itself. We are in the computer age now. They know day by day how they are doing. We do not have to wait to the end of the quarter for these reports. They could stabilize this thing with more financial reports. The leaks, private interviews etc are not the way to go. They are giving the impression that there is something to hide. IMHO this is why we slipped so much. I hope that is not the case (that there is something to hide) and I do not think it is the case.

El: Here I go off line a few hours and then reconnect to try out my BRAND NEW CPQ laptop bought AT COST from ONSL last week, and I find an amazing change of sentiment. Last night, everyone is heading for the local tap room for a shot(or 10) and a glass. This afternoon, everyone is talking about overreaction and how Houston deserves better and maybe Uncle Fife should come on down to see the kids and have a little supper. What gives?
By the way this machine is GREAT! Sure beats the 40 pounder I once had in days of yore. M2

Hi El,

I agree with you wholeheartedly!

Not sure if the entire debacle was "engineered" to give ML or others a better entry point, but I took the opportunity to load up on some at 35.5. I sometimes think that we, as online traders, are far too quick to point fingers at the analysts in terms of underhanded activities. I think they are not bright enough for that sort of sneeky action <g>
