More on free internet service:

What I Don't Like About NetZero:
· The ad window is large if you use low resolutions.

· If you don't click an ad for 30 minutes you get a pop-up window you must click to stay connected

· I got some busy signals during peak times

· There is no auto redial for the dialer

· If they fail to get the "critical mass" of customers they need they will be gone like several before them. (I do think their chances are the best yet for success though.)

Very good analysis tang. And I agree completely. It wouldn't be good for AT&T or for AOL. I trust the very good management of both companies to see that.

But one thing: AT&T isn't dumping its ISP. Since T will soon have a controlling stake in ATHM, spinning off Worldnet to them would be a way to retain control while enjoying the higher valuations of internet stocks. It's clear that AT&T fully plans to offer internet service as part of a one-stop-shopping package that includes local and long-distance phone calls, cable TV, wireless, and internet connections. It is the symbiosis that makes AT&T an awesome presence: Consider seeing caller-ID pop up on your TV screen while you watch your AT&T cable programming, or flipping over to an Excite page on your TV to get a review of the movies on in the next hour, or reading email on your AT&T Wireless phone while you wait in traffic. It's not an accident that they kept the phone number 1-800-IMAGINE when they bought McCaw Cellular.

Yes then ATHM looks likely or the baby bells will sign up one at a time.
