>What is it about youth that is so profoundly moving?<

A way out of age. Immortality. Second chances on tap, no limit. Self-renewing sands of wonderment and unfeigned delight to hold the inexorable.tides of despair and cynicism at bay.

>>>They dedicated their act to the Girls' Swim Team and all the girls were there and went crazy screaming.<<<

That's really brilliant and pathetic. I'm impressed. Envious even. Good goal-oriented thinking. Of course, they could just be nice boys. But they didn't say "Swim Team". Did they. Or Boys Swim Team. That woulda been funny, but probably controversial, and a totally missed op.

A whole team in one feel swoop. Fell.

>>>Any time I see children and teens giving so much time and effort to something positive I get excited and start crying.<<<

I do too.
That's the real reason I don't go.

I used to look at life as an incredible opportunity to do fun things; and kids should, and can, and there's more to do than ever; and they should get the opportunities and have people around who can give them the tools and place and encouragement.

When it all comes together, you can squeeze them in a dumpster.
