I trade the S&P's mostly on a short term basis. The commissions vary but normally range in the $25-40 round-turn basis. You might take a look at the E-Minis which are 1/5 the contract size of SP. There are several futures brokers that have a system where you can enter orders quickly electronically thru the internet.
If you have never traded futures, you might want to research it a bit.
