I saw this on Business wire ( BW)(MN-ADC-TELECOMMUNICATIONS)(ADCT) ADC Telecommunications Wins $4 Million Contract With Sistemas Cablevision Business Editors MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 1, 1999--ADC Telecommunications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADCT; www.adc.com) today announced that it has signed a $4 million contract with Sistemas Cablevision of Venezuela to supply multichannel multipoint distribution service (MMDS) systems for wireless video and broadband data services throughout Venezuela. The contract includes an integrated package of technologies and services from ADC that will provide Cablevision with a turnkey solution for engineering, installation, training, and turn-up of the network. MMDS technology enables operators to quickly deploy wireless video and high-speed, two-way radio frequency (RF) Internet and data services to subscribers over a wide coverage area. Construction and maintenance costs per subscriber are significantly reduced compared to those of a wired system. Cablevision, which owns licenses in eight other Venezuelan markets, will begin to deploy services immediately in Caracas. Coverage will be provided through the use of a combination of high-power transmitters and boosters. "We selected ADC's solution because it can expedite our rollout, and its products provide excellent quality of service to our subscribers," said Fernando Fraiz, president of Cablevision. "ADC understood our requirements and structured an attractive financial package." "We recognize our customers' need to deploy services quickly, and we've put together teams that can get the job done," said Ken Foutz, vice president of ADC's Microwave Systems division. "ADC will provide site surveys, coverage analysis and system design for each market. We'll install and commission each system according to Cablevision's schedule. Our modular design simplifies installation and reduces lifetime maintenance costs, and our products can be easily configured for either analog video or digital data services depending on specific market needs," said Foutz. Grupo IMAGEN-VEPACO purchased Sistemas Cablevision Venezuela in July of 1998. Grupo IMAGEN-VEPACO is a leader in outdoor advertising in Venezuela with 70 years experience and more than 10,000 units installed.
