First, I am sorry to hear your mother died recently. This is an event we all dread having to face.

Thank you for sharing the experiences of your family and some suggestions for finding out more information. I normally look for books at this site first and came up with quite a few titles inputting "evacuees" on the title line:

bookfinder.com

Spending some time looking around the web, I see that quite a bit of information is available out there. People can even obtain an e-mail attachment copy of a book titled, _Hitler's Ear and Auntie May's Stomach_, "The manuscript [of which] is now on microfilm in the Imperial War Museum, London, and is frequently used by schools doing projects on the evacuation. The University of Reading also has a copy:"

ndirect.co.uk

By clicking on the tag on this page, I connected to the home page of the, "Evacuees Reunion Association [which] is organising a major event to be held on Friday, 3rd September 1999 in central London to mark the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the evacuation [quoted from page that comes up when clicking on 1999 Event]."

A Canadian project to gather accounts of British evacuees who entered Canada at Pier 21 is posting material on the web. Thus far I have only read the accounts of people who came as children. Of the three, this one is the most detailed and the only one that notes the reason why his mother wanted to send him out of Britain:

pier21.ns.ca

Thank you very much, Victor. There is indeed quite a bit of literature and other information.
