QCom and Ericy do deal?

Okay, it's been about three weeks since my last posting, but work engagements intervened.

However, the upshot is some great intelligence...

Expect an announcement from Ericsson and Qualcomm within the next two weeks regarding the 3G IPR issue. Looks like they settled. Ericsson will buy QCom IPR to gain more market share of the US market, whilst QCom agrees to licence its IPR on favourable terms and joins the big boys.

Unless of course, someone throws yet another spanner in the works. But this comes from a good source, trust me.

Thread,

OTOTOT,

May I add some comments on this "Go back where you come from" issue regarding Chinese.

Before one makes a generalized comment about "go back where you come from". You better ask everyone and everyone's mom and pa, the top notch ERICY, NOKIA management, even one's father, mother, grand-pa, grand-ma, etc. Or ask oneself. Do not just single out an easy target in the first place.

The generalization and stereotype are mostly at fault here. Does one always ask a white guy to go back to where he comes from when one speaks lousy English or perfect English who happens to be from England, Sweden, or Finland? Does one ask the native Indian goes back to where he comes from? Or should be reverse?

Chinese come from all over the world. You name it. They may come from US (native born - 2nd, 3rd, 4th,5th generation), China, Taiwan, Korean, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan, etc.

Also, they come from various background. Some native born, some poor, some political refuges (that may change China or their respective countries in the future. Well. Good or bad. Just do not know yet), some rich, some students - turn great engineers, scientists, and CEOs (A lot of my friends in IBM, QCOM, LU, AMAT, INTEL, CSCO, ORCL, NASA, Lockeed Martin, LOR, Boeing, etc.), some businessmen (with great ties with their respective countries), some criminals, some goods and some bads. They may be and may not be the citizens of US.

I think other people (white, black, brown, jewish, native born, etc) have the same type of background as well. However, it is always easy to single out Asians as a target group. For example, Japanese-Americans in World War II case.

I do miss my homeland (though I am not from China). I go back there almost every year. I still have my family members, most of my friends, and business contacts there. I do not want to cut my ties with them whatsoever. And I am proud of my root at the same time the contributions I made so far to this USA just like you all. However, I am not sure about my daughter (the 2nd generation or later). She may only speak English or American? No, you will be sure I am going to teach her my native language and all type of computer languages. They are huge assets one can not leave without. So where should my daughter goes back to? America?

Ramsey,
You have blown this thing out of proportion. I wasn't sending a message to you to " go back were you belong " . I was simply wondering if given the opportunity (if you were a Chinese citizen ) have you ever considered moving back to China ? This is a question that I have asked many of my foreign friends including my wife. Not one person considered ever moving back to were they were born. Being American born it's sometimes hard to appreciate what we have. To hear from someone who's foreign born that they prefer to stay in the USA versus returning home makes me think the USA must be the greatest country in the world.

I have a Mexican neighbor who works like a dog in a factory 6 days a week at 12 hours a day. He's 53 years old , and just last week I asked him if he liquidated all his assets and moved back to Mexico would he be able to retire ? He said he could live like a king the rest of his life. I then asked him if he would ever consider it ? He said " no way". To think a person would prefer to work like a dog in the USA versus living like a king in his homeland is hard to comprehend for most , except the foreign born .

The USA isn't perfect and lags in some areas but one thing it doesn't lack is the desires of many millions of people world wide that would love to live here. I too am entitled to wave my flag around once in a while which is done to little by all of us Americans including you. It's unfortunate that you didn't interpret my message as so many others did and chose to insult me the way you did. I think it would have been much simpler to ask me to elaborate on my question either publicly or privately.

I also received many private messages regarding this topic and most were surprised and thought you over reacted. Give me one good reason why I would suggest what you thought I did on this board ? I have been a member of SI for many years and if I were a racist that would have shown up long ago.
