I don't know the specific reason for the trial delay. However, I can tell you that civil cases have trouble getting to trial in federal court because the federal courts are inundated with criminal cases, especially drug cases. Criminal cases have priority by law. The
Curiously, the interstate highways going east from Dallas (i.e., I-20 and I-30--Marshall is on I-20, about twenty miles from Shreveport)have in the past few years been plagued with a lot of drug busts of biggest problem in the federal courts today is that Congress keeps passing laws that create more federal crimes, in other words, "federalizing" what have traditionally been state crimes. Tell your Representative and Senators to stop! The consequence is that important civil cases cannot get to trial.
vehicles; it has a reputation of being somewhat of a "drug pipeline." The judge might have a bunch of criminal trials he has to hear.

The judge also might need more time to decide the Markman issues.

The judge could have decided to give the parties more time to settle. And, the parties' counsel may have suggested in chambers that they were discussing settlement and "might not mind" if the case were put off a couple of months. The judge took the hint, and that way neither of the parties looks like they are trying to delay. I prefer this rationale.

These are the ideas that come to mind. I could be totally off base, of course--the judge just might have a big anniversary coming up and want to take his wife on a trip.
