Alex,

The battle is joined.

I believe I made a remark right after we moved about some of the neighbor kids doing a little dirt biking (motorcycles) on a vacant lot nearby but I didn't see any problems because the parents were nice enough to tell us to let them know if there was a problem and they'd put a stop to it.

Anyway, this has gone on pretty much through the winter and several of the neighbors have gotten riled up because of the noise. So yesterday, we get a copy of a letter in the mail that was sent by one of our neighbors to the owner of the lot (the lot is in our subdivision; it is one of the two remaining lots that have not yet been built) who apparently doesn't know what has been going on and definitely hasn't given the kids permission. My guess is that the owner will post a No Trespassing sign and the kids will disregard it and then the cops will be brought in and the Homeowner's Association will sue for an injunction to enforce the covenant that the property is to be used for residential purposes only.

I'll let you know what happens. The big difference between this situation and yours is that the property is owned by an individual who will take action to stop this. My biggest worry is that my kids will become enthralled with watching these guys ride their motorcycles and get too close to the action and end up in the hospital. The lot backs up to our back yard, which is protected by a wood fence. Also, one of the kids lives across the street and I'm concerned that he'll pull a prank on us because we were referred to in the letter (not by name, but as "a mom with two small children who has complained that the noise wakes them up from their naps"). Oh, and did I mention that these kids are not old enough to have driver's licenses yet.

Fun.
