Having taken up the mantle of DD's "bloodgate" flogging, you're also taking up Mena, JBL? Cool. The thing about Mena, it was contra drug running, right? Contra, as in Iran-Contra, Reagan-Bush, Boland amendment and all that. So the rational right somehow turns it all into another outlet for Clinton hatred. Somehow, it was Bill Clinton that came up with the idea of running drugs there. Whatever you say, JBL. Who killed Vince Foster, anyway?

JBL-- There's a lot going on in this piece, and I'm afraid I'm not up to speed on most of it. The Clinton connection in this case seems a real stretch. But, to recast your question, do I believe that the Reagan-era CIA could have been running guns and drugs through a small Arkansas airstrip, all in service of an illegal, black-budget effort to fund the Contras? Well, criminy, JBL...I suppose it's not out of the realm of possibility. Just ask Ollie. One other comment: In 1986, eight months after Seal's death, his plane was shot down over Nicaragua with an Arkansas pilot at the wheel and a load of ammunition and contra supporter Eugene Hasenfus in the cargo bay. Good shot. ian
