re: "Does anyone here believe that AMD will merge or be taken over by a company with greater resources? Does anyone think that this might be possible"?

No chance as long as Jerry has anything to do with AMD.

Once K7 is established and Jerry is near retirement then Siemens is a logical candidate.

The best candidate would be IBM. They have the process technology to compete (or beat) Intel and vast technical resources including CAD tools and systems engineering. And they could write out the check to buy all the outstanding stock.

The real question is: "Does IBM want to take on all the headaches or just continue on as a technically brain dead giant that is, once again, making tons of money?" My guess is that they don't want the hassles.
