Your answer,"the old utility crowd expects it..." is, of course, absolutely correct. I began my career at Western Electric, the then manufacturing arm of the Bell system and forerunner of LU, and ATT shares were commonly referred to as "the widow and orphans stock" because of their dependable cash flow.
