A cousin of mine once stepped, barefoot, on the back of a bullhead catfish I'd caught. The spine went right up in there, an hour later his foot was double its size and turning blue. Ugly stuff.

A lot of yacht guys here; I get out on the boats once in a while. They're making amazing ropes now, composites of various materials, easy on the hands, easy to knot, and strong as hell, even in very modest diameters. Also pretty damned expensive. Problem with nylon in the tropics as that the sun degrades it, and it's hard to tell when it's getting past its limits.

Funny how the rope thing and the existention thing complement each other, no? I mean, if I was to let go I might take out everything south of Kenosha and north of Gary (and a damn good job, too){>{
