Jim, Good to hear from you again. You have perfect timing which I will get to in a minute. First in answer to your question, 909 started as an observation, one of those strange things like when planets aline. At the time, myself and Moon (I believe) posted at the same time, 9:09. This was about the same time GNET doubled for many of us. So 909 then became another way of saying I doubled my money and more important, it became a code for cyber pals, a well wish, like saying I wish for you that you double your money. So you will see 909 both ways on this thread (tread/board/whatever).
Funny you should ask about the land Jim. That was your and my secret, I haven't talked about it because I fear silly things like jinxing myself. Business is business, until I see dry ink, I believe nothing. Oh happy day, I have papers today, signed papers.
My pal Joan can tell you that about a year ago I made a couple of 909ers off of GNET, NETA and NSOL right in a row. They were new stocks to most then but a gold mine to me. I bought half of the top of a mountain in a very special part of Colorado where I ride horses, hunt, fish, hike or just hang out. I told Joan then that I was going to make enough money off of GNET after that to build a cabin on that special land. A special, private place where one paints oil paintings and thanks God for being alive and free.
Well Joan I built the cabin and in my Tom Sawyer fashion, I did no work on the cabin. I just got the papers back today, I just bought the other half of the mountain top from my neighbor for cash, GNET cash. His land, excuse me, my new land has two cabins on it. I told Joanie that GNET would buy me a cabin, I just never thought about not building one.
Jim knew about the pending deal because he is into real estate and we had talked via e-mail. I sure do love the good times as life gives you a fair share of grief along with the good. Right now, I know my Wife is healthy and happy. I know I got something I really wanted, God's best work and I own it. I also know that I'm having fun with the market and enjoy trying to find the next 909er.
Now you never know how long the good times will last so it is always a good idea to buy special land when you can. Why? Because "it is the only thing that last"......
I am having one wonderful day, I hope you all are too. 909ers to all, BLUE

Good morning Jim, and welcome to Techride. Blue told you the origin of the lucky number "909" for this thread ("Nanhu-Nanhu" and "1999"
and "The One After 909" - Year 2000) also seems to go around this number. More allusions keep popping up; for instance one day the market reversed downward the next day when the S & P displayed the #909 at a minus at the Close, while the Dow and Nasdaq were showing as up. It seems to mean something, usually. "More Often Than Not" is key to paying attention to any Bellewether. My Dad kept track of barometric fluctuations (NY area) and he noticed that More Often Than Not market actions coincided with barometric pressure changes. It's also important to watch NY weather for the Open and the Close, especially ice and snow. If it's bad, it means chaos and less price manipulations of stocks because many workers at the Exchanges will be late, out, or leaving early. Dad also taught me to watch (& hold shares of) a Company called BE (shares a fraction of a penny each on the NYSE)which is a Phillippine Goldmine. Every once in awhile it gives a quick spike, and it popped to $ 17.00 in the '70s when precious metal prices skyrocketed and our stock market was down, at the time of that recession. If you put BE in a watchfolio you may notice its performance can (More Often Than Not) be a signal presaging rallies and dips; it usually performs Contrarian to the daily action but if it doesn't then whatever direction is happening will be sustained. Most important about BE (true historically) - is that if you see it start to spike up, better think about sweeping some chips off the table but fast. Last time it gave a sudden spike was late Midsummer '98, remember THAT? It's hard to explain, but only by watching it is it possible to tune into it's pattern. I've spoken of "The Old Folks" sometimes, and "The Old Folks" are my family and other elderly people I know, who have given me classic stock observations which I share.
Their cautious ways and "Farmers Almanac-Style" (some might call it "hillbilly")
of noticing coinciding patterns of market to environment usually holds true, sort of like the pattern of the bands of a wooly bear caterpillar can predict length and severity of winter "More Often Than Not". That there will usually be a "Santa Claus Rally" and a "January Effect" and a "Tax Rally" and a "Summer Tech Rally" is a more modern way of explaining the larger cycles; and now Techride's Lucky Number 909 has been thrown into the well of our MarketCycle Oracle as well;
because so far it has meant something "More Often Than Not".
Sure would love to learn more about land and real estate, if you have stories you would share, hint hint.
Maybe years to come, if this good market continues, a day like Jed just had will come my way. Wanting Beautiful Prime Land, taking out
a crumpled checkbook with dates & checknumbers scribbled on the cardboard, write a number with many zeros with the lot number in the item line, accepting the deed and shaking hands....then calling the broker to sell some stock to trade for it. Dream Come True.
(psssst...)
Jim, whaddya bet the Bank gave Jed a fancy leather embossed checkbook cover that sits at home in a box in a drawer.
909,
Joanie
