No offense taken. I think your points have merit but not in this case. Location is a key factor once the product has recognition. People will come looking for it. It seems that is not the case with PMA or is it INC or is it #435673. See my point.

The cost of test marketing in 2 or 3 medium sized markets is minimal. Every Television market must make available local advertising based on a cost per spot dictated by the local market. .in a cable market you could advertise on CNBC at a fraction of the cost of a national network ad. Now that doesn't mean that you get to pick your time but depending on the "run" you can project the number of "points" you will be reaching. Contrary to what you think a reasonably good test will cost around $5000. I do not think that unreasonable. You can also have a good quality, professionally done commercial produced for under $300.

Far better in my opinion than putting them in Staples, or any other computer store and hope that the customers happen to see it.

Also, while Sears, a billion dollar corporation, it was broken down into many small corporations with each store responsible for their own P&L, Payroll, Advertising Budget etc, etc. Performance was almost entirely determined by the local market.
