Mary, Thanks for the details of that interview.
Although any cancellations would impact Q2, they would have nothing to do with this quarter's earnings if the orders in question were for April or later delivery. I agree on that point. If they were to warn about Q2, it would be done at the conference call after the Q1 earnings release anyways. Therefore an announcement would not have been expected anytime earlier than that. Maybe there are big orders in the pipeline for Q1 shipments and of course these will be reflected in this quarter for Intel even though the PC companies sell the computers next quarter.I don't see how Mike Murphy would be able to use such a general indicator without determining the delivery dates of such orders to determine any Q1 shortfall.

I would be interested in learning what the general lead time is for Intel shipments once PC makers submit an order. Furthermore, how much of an advance notice is required in order to cancel. If it requires at least 3 weeks, forget about any affect on Q1. I imagine that this lead time is getting shorter as boxmakers try to adopt just in time type of production.

Intel would have supplied PC companies with a lot of
Pentium IIIs well in advance of the February 28th launch date. These initial orders were probably large and of course with higher profit margins. This revenue will show up in Q1 of course-----and my guess is that there is a lot of it. This is why I feel we won't see an earnings warning as their high margin products probably saw the biggest shipments.

By the way, who is Mike Murphy!!!! Never heard of him.
