I left in the spring of 1997. The company Fore bought was Alantec, the company that coined switch/router product by building the Powerhub family of ethernet switch/routers and early pioneer of "Powerbits" family of traffic generators. Alantec was a publicly
traded company which was making money.

Fore did not understand the strength of ethernet market, and was pushing ATM to the desktop. Once they realized that it was a mistake
they quickly decided to change but it was too late, because most engineers left. Then Fore had a serious of blunders by trying to build an ethernet switch internally, and later had to cancel the
project internally because they lost valueable time to market plus
development costs would have been too high.

Let's hope that Berkeley Net will solve all their problems?
