Tony,

There is another big difference between AOL and Amazon. After you install the computer capacity, going from 1000 users to 1001 users does not require additional computers (perhaps a modem only), but with Amazon, going from 1000 books to 1001 books, really does require them to buy that additional book, the box, and delivery.

Amazon does not appear to be doing anything to retain current users. Its only after they
become 'inactive' that they do anything. Management appears to be wasting this 'valuable
database of users' that they have.

You noticed one of the major managements flaws. They clearly do not know how to do retail.

There are many other factors missing from their strategy but the strongest is their lack of focus to keep their current customers.
