An awful lot went into starting WWII besides the Depression. As the German author Thomas Mann said (whose books were banned by the Nazis, whom he fled from), "Having been robbed themselves, the German people turned into a nation of robbers." He meant the reparation payments from the first war and the subsequent inflation.

As far as I can tell, Japan does not blame its troubles on other countries the way Germany did, and Russia seems to recognize that mostly their problems have been brought on by themselves. And China doesn't have that big a reason to want revenge on any other country. So maybe we can get through economic troubles without trying to solve them with wars.
