Here's where JDN saw the 2 years. Matt Drudge (who I don't like, was the source). I'm not in the 2-year camp (hopefully) <Under L.A., ready for Y2K! Five stories below the Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles there is a secret computer command center -- a command center that has enough power, food and water to sustain 50 people for two years! >Message 8179089 And possibly ...Military officials, anticipating possible satellite blackouts and other turn-of-the-century problems have discussed inviting military officials from all the nations with nuclear weapons into a secure nuclear bunker so they can monitor each others' actions and avoid any possible computer glitch-inspired panic, [Senator] Bennett said. > This may also have been in senate testimony last week.Message 8150104 I imagine that there are a lot of bunkers like this in key areas all over U.S. - and they've been in place for a long time. Only makes sense. We went thru fear of nuclear war in 50-60's. Cold war until recently. Now they're worried about cyber-terrorism and Y2K. So, they're dusting things off, upgrading and re-stocking because of Jan 1, 2000. I was surprised about the "2-yr" deal for L.A. though. Then again, the source is Matt Drudge. I am buying and storing extra food, paper goods, personal items, meds, etc. But, I'm not doing the bulk food, de-hydrated food route and moving to the "boonies" deal . (Though my parents think, anywhere in Oregon IS the boonies.) I am buying "by the case" as things I like go on sale. I have plenty of room at my new home ... saves me the hassle by having things on hand, which I use frequently use anyway - and saves me money. Besides, I'll use it - regardless of whether Y2K's bad or not. Pretty hard to do if you're living in an apartment in the city though.I hope people don't panic because of how the media is handling everything with sensational "sound bites". But, I hope they DO make some reasonable preparation - just in case . I don't worry about myself so much. But, I need the stuff just in case my 6 yr-old niece and pre-teen nephews stay with me for a while. Cheryl
